Susan Wassell’s practice focuses on defense of complex litigation, including claims of medical and other professional liability, products liability, general civil litigation matters and personal injury.

Background:

Susan Wassell received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Peace, War and Defense from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998. Ms. Wassell attended law school at The University of Miami School of Law, and graduated in 2002. After her legal degree was conferred, Ms. Wassell moved to Denver, Colorado, to begin her legal career. During her time in Denver, Ms. Wassell gained significant experience in mass tort litigation, with a primary focus on pharmaceutical class actions, as well as in personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability and general civil and commercial litigation matters.

In 2006, Ms. Wassell attended Duke University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.  After gaining a broad spectrum of clinical experiences at Duke Hospital and other Duke Health System Hospitals, she moved back to Denver, Colorado, where she worked within the Emergency Department at The Children’s Hospital, Colorado; a Level I Trauma Center. Throughout all of her nursing experiences, Ms. Wassell has been exposed to myriad disease processes and injuries, and has a full understanding of the rewards, challenges and demands of providing healthcare, regardless of the provider role.

After practicing nursing, Ms. Wassell made a transition into hospital administration, and was the Assistant Risk Manager for a Level I Trauma Center in Denver, Colorado, which fell under the purview of Catholic Health Initiatives. During her time as the Assistant Risk Manager, she was intimately involved in regulatory compliance; policy planning, drafting and implementation; and the investigation and resolution of complaints and grievances.

Knowing that the combination of her legal background and her nursing and Risk Management experiences would give her a unique perspective on medical liability claims, Ms. Wassell made a decision to join Fain Anderson VanDerhoef, PLLC as an associate in March, 2010.
